Drumshelter Productions Arts for Schools Campaign 2011
Drumshelter Productions Arts for Schools Campaign 2011
The “arts and culture campaign” is aimed at providing a supplementary program for arts and culture educators, and assisting Education in facilitating practical aspects of the arts in their classrooms.
Since the introduction of the Outcome Based Education and the introduction of the arts in the South African Curriculum, many educators found it difficult to readily facilitate arts classes. Through assistance of organization like Moving into Dance Mophatong and Sibikwa Arts Centre and community groups many of these educators found support to enthusiastically facilitated arts classes from these organizations. This has been always short-lived because of shortage of funding received by these organizations.
The need of practical arts facilitation in the class room, continues to be in demand as there has not been a program that provides a since of completion and continuity for schools. Having been part of the attempts to create arts programs for schools Lucky Ntlhane Ratlhagane of Drumshelter Productions, has devises a program that will continue the legacy a the arts long after the learners have left their schools and as educators will continue receiving new learners.
Campaign objectives:
Create business/ source of income/ sustained productive jobs for arts practitioners
Facilitate continued relationships for arts practitioners and educators in schools
Growing the arts at schools and within the greater arts industry
To find the missing link between our education systems and the industry
Facilitate practical classes by arts professionals in schools working together with Educators
Drumshelter Production invites interested schools to be part of an exciting, interactive partnership.
Registered schools will be part of weekly classes for learners in an assortment of arts classes –
Dance – Educational Dance
African Contemporary Dance – Fusion, Gumboots, Pantsola
Creative Dance / Choreography
African Dance – Zulu Dance, Setswana Dance etc
Music – African Drums and Marimbas
Storytelling
A combination of the above is possible, depending on the needs of the school and the type of production they would like to archive at the end of the program. A series of workshops for educators will be conducted each term. The workshops can be followed up by co-teaching sessions with arts practitioners and educators in class to ensure the application of what has been assimilates in the workshop.
Participating schools if desired can host an in school completion for arts learners to showcase work done by educators and learns. Best groups my take part in interschool competitions as they grow their skills. Senior learners interested in forming arts clubs / companies and groups can be allocated arts directors to help in growing a group.
All the above services are available at comprehensive fees or tailor made, which are negotiable.
